WavePay is a mobile wallet application by Wave Money that enables sending money and paying for goods and services across multiple categories. The app's core feature is peer-to-peer transfers to family and friends using only a mobile phone number. For recipients without a WavePay account, the app generates transfers using a six-digit secret code—which the recipient can redeem at authorized agent shops with the transaction ID. This extends the service's reach beyond its direct user base, allowing funds to reach users regardless of their WavePay account status.
In-store payments at merchant locations—grocery stores, medical shops, electronics retailers, and restaurants—operate through QR code scanning at the point of sale.
The application provides integrated bill payment and loan repayment services across utility, telecommunications, insurance, and financial sectors. Mobile telecommunications can be topped up or plans purchased through ATOM, MPT, and Ooredoo. Internet service bill payments are available for more than 30 providers, including ATOM, Ooredoo, Myanmar Net, 5BB, Fortune, Mahar Net, WeLink, and Myanmar APN. Solar energy bill payments work with OV Solar, Solar Home, and Sun King Solar. Insurance premium payments are supported through Prudential, Manulife, Capital Taiyo, Young Insurance, and KBZ MS General Insurance. The app handles loan repayments to more than 40 institutional and microfinance partners, including Aeon, Rent2Own, Early Dawn, Yoma Bank, Mahar Bawga, Advans, Alliance, and VisionFund, supporting both traditional lending institutions and microfinance operations. Consolidating these payment channels into a single application reduces the need to manage separate accounts or payment systems for individual service providers.
Healthcare and wellness services are available through partner networks including PunHlaing Hospitals, MyanCare, myDoctor, Health4U, and T-Fitness. Users can also link external bank accounts or e-commerce-enabled MPU cards to their WavePay wallet, enabling transfers between the wallet and these accounts for added flexibility in funding transactions.
Cash management is handled through a network of agent shops where users can deposit funds to add balance to their account or withdraw money. The same network serves non-WavePay users, who can collect transfer funds by providing their transaction ID and secret code. This dual-use infrastructure extends the service beyond digital-only transactions, creating physical cash access points that bridge digital and offline banking.
Account security operates through multiple mechanisms designed to protect account access and transaction integrity. The one-wallet, one-device policy restricts active access to a single phone at any given time. All transactions require entry of a mandatory four-digit PIN before execution. Transfers to non-WavePay recipients use an additional six-digit secret code that is authenticated when funds are claimed at agent shops, providing a secondary verification step.
E-commerce and food delivery platforms—Shop.com.mm, OwayFresh, and FoodPanda—enable direct app payments for online shopping and grocery or food orders. Flight booking and payment services through FlyMya and AirKBZ allow users to search, book, and pay for flights within the app. Bus tickets can be purchased from multiple operators including MMBus Ticket, Oway, AungSan, AungMinGalar, and Mandalay Gate. Hotel accommodations are available through Memories Hotel, Memories Travel, and Balloons Over Myanmar.
